As a piece of clothing women’s swimsuits have become iconic in the world of fashion, whether a one piece or a bikini. The key to wearing a bikini is confidence, confidence and yet more confidence. The girls that rock a bikini best do not necessarily have the most perfect bodies, but they do have the perfect outlook. If you are lucky enough to be beside a pool or an ocean, obsessing about your body is the least stylish thing in the world. So when looking for you next bikini bear in mind that sticking to sophisticated, solid colours is best and leave patterns and crazy colours to the teenagers.
There are a few designers in Second Life who really know how to make a great swimsuit. What sets them apart is the fact that the seams actually match up.
On the occasion where your bikini is not going to cut it there is always the one-piece swimsuit or to be exact the mailot and this is as essential as the little black dress. It makes you appear to be thinner and covers all sorts of little sins. All black is the most forgiving and most elegant. White can also be slimming and elegant but beware that it isn’t see through.
If one thing is common among all women, it is their desire to feel sexy and beautiful. While every woman is beautiful in her own right, bias from the media has the ability to distort this perception. Because of this, many women dread shopping when it comes to swimwear.
This shouldn't be the case. The most important thing you should remember when shopping is the importance of balanced silhouette and image proportion. To help you in your search, below is a guide that can help:
If you have big bust:
Look for swimwear that has wide bands underneath the bust-line and underwire tops. This will provide extra support for your bust. If you prefer one-piece swimsuit, then be sure that the swimwear you buy contains a structure in the bust area such as a shelf bra or a foam cup.
Another great alternative is the halter-top because it provides great cleavage with its sufficient support. Many women with big bust also like styles that contain banded bust-line because it allows them to make adjustments.
If there's one thing you should avoid, it's those triangle tops and strapless bandeau that provides very little coverage on your upper body.
If you have small bust:
Choose demi-bra style swimwear. Those with a touch of padding will also help your bust-line look bigger. If women with big bust should avoid triangle tops and strapless bandeaus, you should wear it.
On the other hand, there are also some things you need to avoid including swimwear that contains too much fabric and ill-fitting swimwear.
If you have a straight figure:
Go for swimwear that will help create emphasize your curves. Swimwear that contain a belted top or a one-piece swimsuit with side cut-outs can help create one. These styles instantly make you look sexier around the hips and waist without adding on real pounds.
Bikinis are also a great alternative for women with straight figure. Additional details like bows, rings, and ruffles can look sexy as well.
If you are bottom heavy:
Skip frilly swimwear and choose mini-skirted swimwear bottoms that cover what it needs to cover. It would be a good idea to select bottoms that have wide sides to avoid unwanted attention.
Swimwear does not end with swimsuits and the overriding desire is to look fashionable. A skimpy bikini might not be appropriate to wear at a pool party on a hot summer’s day, whereas designer swimwear will make the statement you are looking for.
Ladies swimwear designers are meeting the growing demand to provide a variety of outfits that the ladies can wear on social occasions as well as for the practical use of swimming in. Swimwear is big business nowadays with fashion designers including a large range to their showcases. Not only do designers set the fashion trends in day and evening wear but now also swimwear.

Factoid What’s in a name – the bikini got its name because it debuted during the same time that nuclear testing began on Bikini Atoll. The French inventors, engineer Louis Réard and fashion designer Jacques Heim, dubbed their creation the bikini, as they thought it might receive an explosive reaction. I guess they were right.

Let's hear it for the boys
Ok boys, just to prove that we haven’t forgotten that you exist on the fashion front this is just for you!
Research has shown me that the latest trend for you guys for this Spring Summer season is Nautical! It’s a trend that comes back every few years, but it never really seems to go away completely. That’s why designers love it, because it can be a staple (in moderation) every year at this time.
Because Nautical is around in some form every year (my man has a navy white striped polo from last year waiting to be broken out) the key to this particular season is to look more like you are just off to the yacht club rather than a brand new Royal Navy recruit. As mentioned above, Moderation is the key to wearing nautical well and avoiding looking like Popeye, in an over-the-top sailor suit! You can of course go for the muscles bulging however. Covering yourself in stripes and gold buttons is NOT the way to go so please just keep it subtle and give a nod to the trend, not deck yourself out and take to the high seas!
The secret to making this work (especially for men) is in both subtlety and colour combinations. Nautical outfits are normally associated with white and navy - but cream and navy and a splattering of beige or red can look great. Dark navy, almost black, (as opposed to lighter French Navy) is figure flattering and mirrors that of many service uniforms, such as the UK’s police force or Royal Navy.
If you don’t like navy then go for red stripes or plain white or cream, with a nautical twist. Anchor prints are also a refreshing alternative to stripes. You can make your look smarter or more formal by just adding a simple white or grey blazer to your look. We also recommend the various forms of boat shoes around at the moment to go along with your slightly rolled up trousers. Bright socks and layering will also look great this season. A shirt over a polo t-shirt is another good look for casual days or out on the town.
Obviously nautical is not the end of the story for you chaps. Not being an advocate for fashion slavery myself I would encourage your fashion sense to be quirky and surprising. I do realise that it can be an expensive pursuit for one to follow religiously and there is the disadvantage that fashion lacks permanence but the essence of fashion is the reliance on the idea of perpetual transition, continual evolution.
Some other the offerings for Spring/summer 2009 includes a good deal of the yawn-factor; muted tones on tones, an overkill of chic-bohemia but there is some particularly pleasant individual ensembles and some aesthetically charming pairings.
Linen & Polish
The contrast in texture and the aesthetic cut of the trousers is particularly appealing but the marriage of the good shoe and the trouser is the real magic; fresh but somehow remarkably traditional. Linen trousers are hardly anything new but most chaps wear them very casually – even unironed and secondly, they are often worn with careless and dreary examples of footwear; so bring out your highly polished shoes for outstanding casual summer look.
Neckscarves
The neckscarf is an excellent accessory for spring and summer; a dab of colour, a little formality, whimsy and, importantly, balance for ensembles. Some might view it as a little too ‘dandy’ and affected, but adding a neckscarf can lift an otherwise rather ordinary outfit by adding little colour and pattern around the neck. The retro check is particularly attractive.
The Double Breasted Jacket
Double breasted jackets appears to be making a comeback and it’s certainly long overdue. A stylish double-breasted jacket has been missing from high fashion. Its elegance lifts pedestrian and even lacklustre pieces to a fine level of nattiness.
Formal/Business wear
A two-button suit is simply a must have for 2009 – the two button suit is easily the most flattering cut for larger men, and suits all shapes and sizes with a flattering, more tapered silhouette. It also displays a great deal more of your shirt and necktie!
Pinstripes, all the rage the past few years, may have to take a back seat to more traditional solids and, in many cases, windowpane patterned blazers. While pinstripes are still extremely popular and acceptable, a return to classical patterns and colours will be obvious in many collections. With regards to colour, expect a great deal of softer pastels to be featured during the summer collections for men – both in designer fashions as well as in retail locations. The vibrant neons and sizzling colours of the last few years will have lost some of their impact, though they will still draw many sales in some collections and younger men will still find them available.
Casual wear
Vintage clothing will see a massive resurgence in the smart casual category – due to the fact that many men will no doubt see an opportunity to save a few dollars by bargain shopping through second-hand boutiques and thrift stores. Vintage clothing has a timeless flair and the obscure patterns can offer a unique, metropolitan edge to an otherwise staid outfit.
Jeans, Jeans, Jeans.
Denim is tough, versatile, and inexpensive to purchase. One can certainly expect the denim trend to continue with its expansion of washes, tints, and various levels of distressing/destroying. Many men will likely, and rightly so, see denim garments as being useful both for home as well as at the office.
The death of the screen-printed t-shirt as a fashionable accessory.
While it has been popular off-and-on for a few years now to wear a printed t-shirt along with a blazer or leather jacket, it is unlikely that this trend will continue in the retail realm. While some designers may still prefer a skin-tight screen-printed t-shirt to pair with their skinny jeans – this will certainly not carry over to a larger market. Gentleman should be on the lookout for mock-neck sweaters or jersey-knits in basic colours and patterns.
Everything that was old is new again, any quality garment that still fits should be held on to, even if it is no longer in the spotlight, with this time-tested maxim in mind.
