Recap for Visit to the Workings Worlds Career Fair with GAX Technologies

On Thursday May 29th from 1am until 12noon SLT, SL’s second career fair was hosted by GAX Technologies. I had the pleasure to attend this fair, look around and meet some wonderful people whose company was participating.

Just as a review…. The first career fair was held in November 2007. There were over 300 interviews that took place with over 50 real life jobs given. Most jobs were based in Luxembourg but there was at least one job given in the USA . The SL career fair was almost like a career fair in the real world with different companies available to speak with potential employees. The recruiters can meet with the client and have private interviews. Many jobs are available from all over the world and many of them can still be viewed at www.working-worlds.com.

Bibe Mayo was available from Wilder Publications to assist participants as well as myself, at the fair. Upon arrival I found a sign in table and TP’s for everything. My first stop was the recruitment center where I met an individual looking for assistance. I quickly put him in touch with Bibe and was on my way. My first company was Brown Brothe’s Harriman (BBH). I was quickly greeted by An Vaher, who is the Recruitment Manager for BBH Luxembourg. BBH currently was “graduates and experienced people with finance/banking background to work in the field of financial services, mainly fund services”. As this was close to the end of the fair An was able to sate that there were a few possible candidates to choose and felt that the fair held in SL was “an interesting tool to experiment with”. If you missed the fair and would like to look at the possibility of working for BBH you may contact them at Europeanrecruitment@bbh.com.

My next stop was at Dexia TV. I had the pleasure of speaking with arnaudDexia Destiny who is the head of recruitment and mobility for Dexia in Luxembourg . The show had gone quite well and they had a number of interviews and will proceed further with face to face interviews. They are currently looking for people for mainly private banking positions and some highly specialized ones such as in the trading room and in support activities. They are both project finance and a universal bank. arnaudDexia stated that “far as project finance is concerned we are world number one for the public sector. For universal banking, we tend to focus more on Europe ”. Again, if you missed the fair and may be interested in working for Dexia you may contact them at www.dexia-bil.lu.

My last stop was with MNKS3 Michigan who was with a Luxembourg based law firm, Noble and Scheidecker. They specialize in 3 core practice areas which are corporate finance, employment and technologies & IP. MNKS3 stated that “we came here on Benelux SL Job Fair for 3 positions: 2 lawyers/jurists and one administrative profile”. When I asked why a law firm came to such a unique event MNKS stated that they came “because it is so innovative and exciting”. MNKS3 is a partner in charge of... Technolgies & IP. There are 5 partners and is a 60 people firm. If you would like to contact them for a position you can go to http://www.mnks.com/recruitment.html.

Alright as the last stop for the day I asked a few more questions. First, was there anything that he, MNKS3 would like to say specifically? This is what he had to say… “In our view, the interesting thing is that we saw a demand for legal positions and in fact we were surprised to see that we were the only participating law firm”. Admittedly, I was surprised as well. He continued by saying “we have seen people we would probably never have met in first life; it is an amazing way of meeting people, efficiently”. And one last question for this enquiring journalist. Do you think SL is something you would continue to use for both personal and business purposes?

"If I had time, I would definitely use SL for personal use. I will probably also use SL for professional use whenever I see an opportunity." ~MNKS3 Michigan

Well, there you have it… Another plus for SL in the midst of chaos, lag, griefers and more…And for those of you who missed it and would like to attend one of the job fairs you can do so in the fall on November 27th. Mark your calendars now and plan ahead because this is yet another “wonderful SL thing”.
