Mark Your Calendars! The Friday Night Talkshow's 1st Anniversary SLebrity Roast! August 29, 2008 Guest: Wurlitzer Seisenbacher

Past Guests Transcripts

Friday Night Talkshow With Wurlitzer Seisenbacher: Transcript 08/22/08.

Wurlitzer: What is the ARTisan and how did it get started?

Wyatt: The ARTisan is a quarterly publication that gives readers information regarding all the various aspects of art. These aspects include fashion, modeling, sim design and of course in-world digital artists and photography. The idea was first conceptualized by myself just out of the blue. I had an idea to do a publication that was different. I wanted to create a publication that would include a lot of useful information for the artisan in everyone not just digital artists and their works. The ARTisan's purpose was to reach out to the whole Second Life community and allow others to obtain this information and use it in whichever way that would be helpful to them.

Wurlitzer: What does the ARTisan magazine focus on and is it appropriate for all ages?

Wyatt: The magazine's key focus is on new and exciting, but artistic, break-thrus in the previously mentioned areas. It is a magazine suitable for all ages.

Wurlitzer: How do you decide which content will be featured in upcoming issues?

Wyatt:Well in order to keep track of the stories and content we insert into the ARTisan the staff and I get together for regularly scheduled meetings and collaborate on stories. We really try to keep everything in the magazine if we can. No matter how big or small the story. Just to keep the content fresh and interesting.

Wurlitzer: How many make up the ARTisan staff and what are their roles?

Wyatt: On staff there is 19 of us and all of us have our own part in making the ARTisan what it is. The roles primarily are Interviewers, Photographers, Fashionistas, Traveling Photographers, and of course the editors. Each role has a unique part to play ranging from taking themed shots to interviewing artists to traveling to new and exciting sims and writing up some exciting reviews.

Wurlitzer: Are there common themes you can find in the ARTisan?

Wyatt: Being that the magazine is so diverse there really isnt a set theme. But I have talked over some ideas with my editors and we have a few tricks up our sleeves so to speak. One of our first is a Halloween themed magazine being released October 31st.

Wurlitzer: Theres very few ads in the first edition of the ARTisan, why is that?

Wyatt: We didnt want to put ads in the magazine for the plain reason that this is a magazine dedicated to art and art only. We dont want anything to draw away from that main premise. We were tossing around the idea of converting to using ads in the magazine but again arrived at that same idea that it would take away from the overall flow of the magazine.

Wurlitzer: Does the ARTisan have an official blog or group to join?

Wyatt: We have an official blog that updates regularly whenever we have any exciting and upcoming news on the magazine. The link can be found on my in-world profile and also in our Flickr group "The ARTisan Magazine."

Wurlitzer: What are the most satisifying and frusterating things for you while working on the ARTisan magazine?

Wyatt: The absolute most satisfying thing while working on the magazine is when all the articles are edited and ready for layout and putting the magazine together. I enjoy putting the articles and picture together and making the magazine come to life and then of course when its finally completed and printed in world. But I do have to say there are some frustrating moments. Its always frustrating when chasing down a deadline and trying to get documents together at last minute. This time though we have taken careful precautions to avoid those frustrations from occuring again. We have set deadlines a bit in advance to give ample time for the magazine layout and editing.

Wurlitzer: In your magazine you have many entries for the cover competition..What are the rules and how many entries have you recieved so far?

Wyatt: The rules are pretty much anything that would be befitting the cover of the magazine. The first issue was very important. We wanted it to truly be expressive of art here in Second Life. As far as entries go for that first issue we held a competition for 25000 Lindens and received 93 entries total.

Wurlitzer: Who are the judges & how do you go about selecting them?

Wyatt: Being that this is a staff driven magazine I found it befitting that each sends me their vote for their favorite contestant. The cover with the highest votes wins.

Wurlitzer: What are the prizes for the winners?

Wyatt: 5000 Lindens

Wurlitzer: What happens to all the final entries who did not make the cover competition?

Wyatt: The entries that did not win were still featured in the magazine and displayed there. Just as a dedication to all the people that participated. To some that was very meaningful to them. It was nice to see their work in the magazine and be noticed and recognized

Wurlitzer: Do you feel the final winner of the monthly ARTisan cover competiton closely resembles the concept of ARTisan magazine?

Wyatt: The winner of the competition, In10sE Iwish, really provided a great composition of the beauty and sophistication of art in Second Life and provided a great cover that encompasses that theme.

Wurlitzer: Who are some SL artists that you would like to see interviewed for future editions of the ARTisan?

Wyatt: The artists that are interviewed in the ARTisan are directly tied into the artists that feature monthly at the artists park. We strive to expose those artists that may not have a huge following or name here in the Second Life community, but still provide some of the most phenomenal artistic pieces that can be seen in Second Life

Wurlitzer: What interests you in Second Life?

Wyatt: In second life my major interests are sim design and building. Personally I am not an experienced builder but have always admired the beauty of unique and interesting builds that show creativity and imagination. Perhaps one day I will pursue building a little bit more but for now I am very content running The ARTist's Park and the ARTisan.

Wurlitzer: If you could log on as any avatar for a day, who would that be and why?

Wyatt: That is an interesting question. I really dont know of any avatar that I would want to log on for a day but I guess Torley would be a prime candidate. Just to be able to see his different landmarks and avatar skins would probably be fascinating. Not to mention what kinds of tricks and gadgets he might have in his inventory.

Wurlitzer: What are some good/bad experiences of Second Life?

Wyatt:  I would definitely have to say some of the good experiences in Second Life is being able to reach out to a diverse and unique audience that would otherwise be hard to do in real life. The friends you make and the places you visit which would be in a word impossible to see in person. But as with anything else there is always a little drama that does ensue from time to time that can be very disheartening.

Wurlitzer: Are there any other projects you have in mind besides the ARTisan?

Wyatt:  Well since re-creating the ARTist's Park my next project would have to be getting a FULL SIM and creating a more lush and vibrant scenic sim that much more appealing to artists. There were so many things I wanted to do with the Park and was restricted to a limited number of prims. But with a FULL SIM I know I can create even more and make it that much more dynamic.

Wurlitzer: If you could work for Linden Labs, what would your role be, and why?

Wyatt: I would have to honestly say I would probably be most suited to be in development. I have an extremely vivid imagination and would be probably best fitted to develop future user friendly interfaces or in-world ideas.

Wurlitzer: Where can we go to get more info on future issues of the ARTIsan?

Wyatt: The ARTisan has a blog as well as a flickr group. We also have in-world kiosks that have been placed in several locations that auto-update with the latest versions of the ARTisan.

Wurlitzer: The last quote of the ARTisan is a quote from Picasso "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." How have you come to battle or face that demon?

Wyatt: I have always kept an open mind and expressed my thoughts or ideas either through art or writing. I believe that by keeping an open mind and being able to adapt to change and your environment around you that you can truly be a successful artist. Keep your imagination fresh by drawing inspiration by whatever means necessary and express those feelings and ideas by whatever media available to you. Maybe you arent a builder or a digital artist or a photographer, but as long as you keep that spark of imagaination and hold on tight then you will find you way. In each of us lies an ARTisan. Its just a matter of finding it inside yourself and that is something only you can do. We all can only be who we are.
