Friday Night Talkshow Transcript: 10/31/2008: Sioxie Legend of SECOND WAVE Apparel

Snapshots By Leabros Memel

Wurlitzer: Whats your avatar history in Second Life?

Sioxie: My Avatar history is probably pretty boring compared to others - mostly when I joined SL I got started making clothes right away. I do venture out sometimes but mostly fashion related events or if it is for a friend or a good cause.

Wurlitzer:What is SecondWave and how did you get involved?

Sioxie: SecondWave is the name of my store and I invented it - I guess that is how I'm involved. But mostly I originally thought of the name because of my love for the ocean, but the word "Second" definitely has it's origins in SecondLife.

Wurlitzer: Where is SecondWave located?

Sioxie:

Wurlitzer: How long did it take to create SecondWave?

Sioxie: It took about a week of thought and design to come up with the logo and a general idea of what I wanted to accomplish. But SecondWave is always evolving so really it isn't finished...

Wurlitzer: Who are the staff involved with SecondWave, & what are their roles?

Sioxie: Currently I have no staff - I only do this part time when I can. I find it a release and enjoy it. If I were to do this full time I might consider hiring individuals but I am a bit of a control freak so I don't know how well that would work out.

Wurlitzer: What was your first customer experience in SL like?

Sioxie: My first customer experience was actually pretty nice, Dakota Buck was one of my first customers believe it or not. LOL - we've both come so far.

Wurlitzer: What were your desires for joining Second Life?

Sioxie: I was interested in it primarily because it gave me the opportunity to create content for people. Even without being paid I would still do it - I have a bit of an ego and I love the attention.

Wurlitzer: What are some of the inspirations that inspired the various items featured at SecondWave?

Sioxie: The 80's are definitely an inspiration - I loved some of the fashions from then and you can definitely see that in the items I create. I would also say that Ralph Lauren and Cocoa Chanel are two very heavy influence as well a Yves Saint Laurent.

Wurlitzer: Whats are the price range for the items that SecondWave carries?

Sioxie: On average I have items ranging in price from L$35 to $900 for full outfits and fat-packs

Wurlitzer: What are your favourite ways of promoting SecondWave?

Sioxie: I'd have to say that just giving items away to members on FashionCon Cafe and Fashion Emergency in chat is what I really get a kick out of. I also like to blog about my items and then see responses from individuals. I never tire hearing from customers - good or bad.

Wurlitzer: How did SecondWave get involved with Duettmann & Frankel Modeling?

Sioxie: Helke used to write for a magazine and noticed one of my releases - the Zipper Jeans. She encouraged me to branch out and do a lingerie line and she has always been a dear friend and such a fan too.

Wurlitzer: When was your first event with Duettmann & Frankel Modeling?

Sioxie: August, Helke had a last minute cancellation and asked if I would like to have a show. I like doing shows so doing this as a favor wasn't even a problem.

Wurlitzer: What were some features of the recent fashion event for D&F?

Sioxie: Well, I released my new fall line. I tried to get a very fall/winder toasty feel to all of my designs but still with a chic attitude. I would say that they definitely have a metropolitan influnce while still keeping a coquettish charm.

Wurlitzer: What are your future plans regarding SecondWave and D&F?

Sioxie: Well I plan on doing a Spring show with D&F - which I know will be a smashing hit.

Wurlitzer: What are some groups that members can join regarding SecondWave

Sioxie: I do have a regular Group - SecondWave Apparel that people can join for free. But if you have no more group spots left I do have a Subscribe-o-matic and they can join that without missing any of the freebies and sales.

Wurlitzer: How many members would are active in the SecondWave groups?

Sioxie: I believe it is around 1400 people currently. Although the response rate is closer to 500. When I send out a notice - about 1/3 of those in the group actually respond. Which is normal - people do have Real Lives and probably need to eat and sleep at some point.

Wurlitzer: How many times do you hold special group events for SecondWave?

Sioxie: I usually try to have a sale once a month for those in the group. Or I may release an item to the group at a discount and only let them know before I release it to Fashion Con or blog it.

Wurlitzer: Does SecondWave have any sponsors?

Sioxie: Currently no one sponsors me or my store - but I do have mentors. The one person that is wholly responsible for this would be Charlotte MOrelett - she is my co-worker and introduced me to SecondLife. Tigerlily Koi is also an invaluable mentor and friend with all things SL.

Wurlitzer: What are some of your goals for SecondWave for the future?

Sioxie: I plan on growing the store and hopefully I can still keep creating the crazy fashions that pop into my head. I also do 3D and sculptys are fun - so I may start making items along those lines, but honestly I really enjoy making clothing.

Wurlitzer: If you weren't involved with SecondWave, what would you be doing?

Sioxie: I am a designer/artist/animator/modeler so even without SecondWave or SecondLife, I would be doing something creative. I love making pretty things.

Wurlitzer: What do you like to do in your spare time in SL away SecondWave?

Sioxie: Sometimes I try to find crazy places. I've been to Hawaii, Hell, A Pirate Ship etc.. I like themed areas that aren't just about shopping. Hell was fun - digging all those graves up was a blast.

Wurlitzer: How do you see the future of Second life?

Sioxie: I believe that SL is still in its infancy and will grow tremendously over the next few years. Although the economy is in the tank, SL will survive because people may find it a cheap alternative to going out. In any case the business use for SL is just beginning to start and once they incorporate more of what the internet provides then I think you will see a boon of growth.

Wurlitzer: Where do you see SecondWave 6 months from now?

Sioxie: I am not really sure. I don't currently have any lofty goals of taking over the fashion scene - but I do intend to make sure that SecondWave is a known brand.

Wurlitzer: What would you like to be known for in Second Life?

Sioxie: I would like to be know for my design and skill in the SL fashion scene. I would also like to be known for my customer service. I always try to make the customer happy and I really believe that without the customer - SecondWave wouldn't exist.
