Interview With Wurlitzer Seisenbacher
Conducted By Lanai Jarrico
September 5, 2008
1. How did you find your way into Second Life?
I was working on recording music tracks for a college project,
and I was bored, so I typed into Google "online games"
and I found something called Second Life.
I saw the videos & previews
and was (BLEEPING) blown away
so I tried to install it, but my computer was too slow.
I had to wait a couple months to get a graphics card,
finally I got one installed.
I came into SL for one reason only...
creativity
I lack it, so I figured maybe SL might help me be more creative
explore & learn.
I learned about the possibilities and was amazed
and I was thinking.. ok this is ok!
But, I've heard of online addictions
people are idiots. LOL..I'm not one of them
only nuts get addicted.
So there I was online for 1hr then logged out for the day
that continued for a couple weeks...
next I would..log in, talk to somebody log out for 3hrs or so
then it got to the sad point..
I would log in.. then log out
then log back in to tell my friends I was logging out :(
LMFAO
ROFL
LMFAO
2. Do you have any RL background in the entertainment industry?
If no, What made you decide to create your own talkshow?
No, I was sick and tired of reading all the group notices and events about strip clubs and online casinos.
The reason why I decided to create a talkshow is because its a form of entertainment that will hopefully get more
people interested and involved creatively in SL.
3. Who are some of the people that have inspired you in your SL Career?
Seems like everybody I've run across in SL I've had a lot of inspiration, theres way too many to name,
but most of them, you can tell when you read my guest list. ;)
4. Who staffs your weekly talkshow?
A lot of my dearest and closest friends that I've known for a while, and also random people who show a common
interest in helping things out, and making its a lot to name, but I do want to thank the following for their
dedication since the idea of putting up a staff group was necessary..I could have never done this on my own:
Aidan Aquacade, Blaire Fhang, Brett Kjeller, Buckaroo Mu, Elric Ember, Grim Bracken, Holly Honi, Joel Streeter,
Kelli Georgette, Killer Kowalski, Lanai Jarrico, Mustang Letlow, Pagan Umarov,
Poulet Koenkamp, Secondstreet Gasser, Stray Underwood, Suave Kohim, TonyGambino Ronzoni, and myself...These are
the special ones that puts everything together, whether its designing, suggestions, or other random thoughts,
each one I know and work with carefully.
5. You spend a lot of time in Second Life, is this your real job?
Yes, Due to Crohns disease, I am unable to work in RL, therefore,
I like to help out support groups and donate as much time towards various support group and help out all my friends with this SL business.
6. What are your most memorable moments as Friday Night Talkshow host.
Plenty to name. From our first talkshow guest Angela Eclipse of Take Action, to Brando Dingson of A.G.S.O in which
SL had a lot of issues that one night and we crashed but we were using voice, so we were not able to move around
but we continued on having a voice conversation for over 2 hrs while our avatars were missing. LOL.
To the Wurligate scandal, in which a while back I had one of the writers from SLnewspaper on as a guest to talk
about their online newspaper, a couple months ago my guest was Natalie and Rawly from SLinworldtoday.com, a rival
newspaper SL company, during the episode with Natalie and Rawly on as a guest, one of the rival newspapers
"slnewspaper.com" secretly sent in a spy during the show and recorded every piece of audio that went on during the
conversation to see if anything was being bad-mouthed about their newspaper..hence...Wurligate...
To having the very first musical interview/concert in SL featuring: PhoebeAnn Theas, Erin68 Frog, Satin Galli,
Damian Carbenell & Harmonia Trefoil..and man..theres just way too many to name...
7. Most embarrassing?
Haven't really had one, usually I try to do my best to keep things in control.
8. With the griefers that run amuck in Second Life, have you experienced griefings during your shows?
Oh yes, the first griefer attack that occured was when we interviewed Michi Lumin of Luskwood. As a furry shes
been under constant attacks by furry haters and a whole gang of furry griefers happened to TP in during the middle
of the show and place griefing posters aimed at her directly, I really felt ashamed in seeing Michi having to go
through that at the show, she didn't need that, and it was very rude and totally disrespectful towards her and the
interview. I later IMed the griefer and gave her a few "choice" words...
9. If so, Who have you been griefed by and why do you think they want to cause you trouble?
I have personally been griefed by the first best friend I've ever had in Second Life..After joining SL, I'm
thinking, "Wow..SL has to have some kind of place for theme parks"..so I met this guy who ran a theme park...quiet
guy...never talked much...always building...then tearing things down constantly. Later he IMs "I'm leaving SL, I
can't create anything nobody's coming to the studio, its a dying business."
...and I'm thinking..."Wait ...don't do that...don't do that...
... let me think of something to help you, your place is awesome
... and I want to help you."
So I thought, well, theres a lot of music in SL
what happens if you take away the music and kept the microphone?
...How about...a talkshow!!!
...too much sex in SL..and gambling was being eliminated
[so that's how that story began]
Meanwhile, in April while working on the show
he was out of town, and I was interviewing Karine Koba from
Averlast Boxing Gym...setting up the chairs, I saw 3 chairs and I said..oh..I don't need 3 just 2..so I accidently
deleted the 2 chairs.. I couldn't rezz it again on his studio but my parents bought me a parcel for my birthday
in Feb, so i thought ok, its ok, i'll go and do the show there tonight..
I immediately called him 10 times on his cell phone,
no answer, during the show he IMs me "What happened"
I told him what happened, I removed the chairs, and could get it to rezz, so he says "You should have known
better, next time use your brain, that's ok, you can keep your show"
I was really upset and worked up..
here i met him in RL twice..really good friends in RL..
and then he has the disrespect to say that ignorant thing to me.
When we did the talkshow at his place,it was always unorganized
things I wanted done, I couldn't do.
He had faulty TPs, nobody knew where to go to
You would have to walk a mile to find the show, if you were lucky.
No signs or landmarks to the talkshow..etc..
The show was still popular, but a mess...
I had a funny feeling that nows the best time to cut ties w/ him and
when I did I had this funny feeling that he's going to be pissed,
everything he gave to me I returned, I'm not one to keep what somebody gives me for free...
It's theirs, and it should go back.
..So I knew eventually he would take it back..so...
A week before..I IM my group, "Does anybody know a good place to purchase a stage?"
and I get an IM response from Buckaroo Mu...
" Wurl, i can build you one"
So met with him and told him what I needed and wanted.
Now that I'm running everything on my own, I want it done correctly.
Bucks very awesome, and a very good friend of mine, I've known as a newbie, he helped organize a skin donation for
my RL birthday,3K in 15mins. LOL.
...While i'm doing a show... the studio disappears.. everything's gone
My guests and I are in the water...
It was not a big show, cause of too many SL crashes etc
so it was cool that it happened,so I IMed Buck.
"Hey Buck..Hows the studio coming along?"
"Doing Wurl, i'll have it for you by Sunday."
"Oh OK..That's great..cause everything's been removed..and we are all sitting in the water now"
Bucks response: "WHAT?!?!? TP ME RIGHT AWAY..I'LL GET IT SET UP FOR YOU"
...So it was completed in 8days...LOL
When it was done I asked him,
"How much do you want for it Buck..it's exactly what I need and am looking for." He replies "Couldn't possibly
charge you, just put a plaque up :>"
... but I knew that he and his wife are active participants of this virtual SL HUD game Tiny Empires, and they
are having a RFL, so i gave him 8K.
I told him to give it to him and Wendy, his wife's RFL...not as a purchase, but as a donation.
... and the rest was avatar history...
But then he found out about the show, got jealous,
so he started to IM me, harassing me, sending pictures,
spamming groups.
Now it's turned from harassing to stalking.
10. What is your main idea for creating your talkshow?
For me the idea is to get the chance to talk the person who creates what they are doing in SL. Without worrying
that their busy in another IM or not returning your message. It gives the audience and , a great way to learn more
about them behind the avatar, ask them questions based on their products for troubleshooting/interest, and also
helps to give them more promotion and recognition as all my guests know, I like to help out each one, and I never
leave one alone, I'm always working on finding more opportunities for them to get their product/service
advertised.
11. How do you pick your guests?
It varies a lot of times I'll go online and look under websites for SLURLS that catch my interest, or I'll go and
meet with the person when they IM me, or many times i've also gotten requests to have such famed guests as:
Poulet Koencamp of Caribbean Sensations/Space Park;
Frolic Mills of Best of SL Boulevard., Kirk Claymore and Maddox DuPont of KMADD..etc..
12. What's the max number of guests ever interviewed for your talkshow?
It depends I like to have either one or two guests at a time for each show, but the most I've had was when
SecondStreet Gasser and his girlfriend Holly Honi suggested to have a slew of SLentertainters perform:
PhoebeAnn Theas, Erin68 Frog, Satin Galli,
Damian Carbenell, Harmonia Trefoil...etc..
In which I was Wurl Sullivan, running behind the scenes, making sure audio streams and lighting was setup,
while SecondStreet Gasser was helping out with introducing each singer, until it was time for me to interview
them.
13. Do you pay your guests or get paid for what you do?
I do not pay my guests because I don't earn any money in RL, but I make a promise to each and every one that if
they can just spend one hour to talk about their product, I can guarantee them that I will be there to promote
them and help them out as much as I possibly can, I like to help out, and one thing I do constantly in SL is help
out all my past guests. Just because the interview is over does not mean I go my own way..I help them out
constantly, and I keep in contact with a lot of people...I have also developed a lot of close relations and I
would have never met them if I never had the chance to interview them.
Now that everyone knows a little about your Friday Night Talkshow, I'm sure the fans want to know a little more
about YOU .
Who is Wurlitzer Seisenbacher?
14. Where are you from?
West Coast ;)
15. Who are some of your influences in life?
Mostly musicians, Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Bobby Darin.
16. When you were 19, you were diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, can you tell me a little bit about that.
Crohn’s disease is an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, also referred to as the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Crohn’s disease can affect any area of the GI tract, it most commonly affects the
lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum. The swelling extends deep into the lining of the affected
organ. The swelling can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea.
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease, the general name for diseases that cause swelling in the
intestines. Because the symptoms of Crohn’s disease are similar to other intestinal disorders, such as irritable
bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis, it can be difficult to diagnose. Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation and
ulcers in the top layer of the lining of the large intestine. In Crohn’s disease, all layers of the intestine may
be involved, and normal healthy bowel can be found between sections of diseased bowel.
Crohn’s disease affects men and women equally and seems to run in some families. About 20 percent of people with
Crohn’s disease have a blood relative with some form of inflammatory bowel disease, most often a brother or sister
and sometimes a parent or child. Crohn’s disease can occur in people of all age groups, but it is more often
diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 30. People of Jewish heritage have an increased risk of developing
Crohn’s disease, and African Americans are at decreased risk for developing Crohn’s disease.
Crohn’s disease may also be called ileitis or enteritis.

17. How was it discovered?
What are the side effects and is there a cure?
..There is no cure...I promised my mother that if I graduated high school i would give up smoking. I graduated and
I gave up smoking.
i was fine till December, I started having this weird feeling,
dizzy spells, nausea, tiredness. I would ignore it and let it pass.
While moving from an apartment to a townhouse my dad asked for my help to lift a TV so I helped him out and my
pants fell off, And he noticed my fingers were swelling..he though that was strange and that's all...Then I lost my appetite..
Anything I ate I would add a lemon to it.. don't know why
chicken/fish/pasta/tea...etc..
I started getting this weird feeling in my stomach, like cramping.
It was keeping me up at night, I couldn't sleep.
It would hit me at 3am.
While visiting my grandmother, I was taking a shower getting ready to go out for dinner, when I saw the scale and
said "I wonder how much I weigh.."
just for shits and giggles
So I stepped on the scale..98 lbs...
I thought this had to be a mistake... some error..
So I hopped on it again, 98 lbs....
I freaked out...first I thought I was anorexic.
I turned to the mirror and said
"Oh my god...I'm going to die like Karen Carpenter"
I was freaked out and told my parents about the scale
My dad waited a couple weeks till he finally found a doctor at University of Chicago.
The doctor said "Theres nothing wrong, it's all in your head
your fine..you to see a neurologist"
So we left and I kept ignoring it.
Then it got to the point it was bothering me so much,
keeping me up for half a year,my father finally found another doctor
and told him what I was experiencing.
fatigue,dizzy,cramping,no appetite... etc
He didn't know so he wanted to do 3 tests:
upper lower GI; barium and colonoscopy.
The first test was the upper GI, that came out fine.
Then the 2nd was the lower GI was next, that came out fine
Finally, the colonoscopy. That came out fine too.
They told me to go back to the waiting room...
2 hrs later...had to do the procedure again
and they told me to go back to the waiting room
2hrs turned into 6hrs.
It should have been a 4hr test, it turned into 6hrs
A few days later we got the results back. Crohns Disease.
I was scared, I thought I caused it from the excessive drinking, smoking/stress I would do.
I was afraid it was going to kill me..
But its not fatal
and theres no cure
Nobody knows how it ever existed on earth.
So that was 1999.
18. What were some of your lifestyle changes you had to make since being diagnosed?
In 2000 I lost my first dog and I was very close with him.
I decided that i need to do something to keep me busy
So I decided to start to study music. I enrolled in college
but took music only classes...it was hell
the first teacher couldn't stand me cause of my condition, he had no patience and I couldn't comprehend anything.
I later found out, its because I was secretly overdosed.
So I enrolled in college and applied to be a music major.
I passed on the first test, the judges loved me.
They were very amazed w/ me and I was their pride and joy of the college and their piano lessons.
When I did recitals, I would get standing ovations.
Then I got into studying music theory and ear training
ear training was hard I suffered a lot as a kid,
I was deaf, lost my hearing when I was younger from fever.
Dad took me to every doctor..
"Sorry..your sons deaf..nothing we can do"
"Yes, he's deaf, but there might be a chance we can get him back"
called "tubes"
The downside is when you remove it, it can leave a scar.
So I had a scar for several years in my ear, which was awesome.
I didn't have to go swimming, hated water and swimming
Dr said if I go back down in the water I could be deaf again
So I always avoided swimming.
So I'm in musical ear training classes
and its Hell..
If I say its one pitch...I'm wrong
I'm usually one pitch off..due to my ear..due to my ear.
I hear about 98%
I was really frustrated and trying to figure out why am I always one pitch high/lower on my music ear training
tests.Then it hits me...If I said its a C, the teacher would said its B or D.
My theory teacher had no patience for me,
and told me its better for me to leave. So I left.
And I went to another college,
and enrolled again in another music class.
The teacher was much more patient with me.
That's what I need 1-on-1 attention.
Then I get a message to meet with the dean.
...I enrolled in all music classes that I need to take non music classes or be kicked out...
So I took a psychology & communications class.
...Heres the humiliating thing...
People graduate in 4 years for college.
I had to take one class at a time, every semester.
It was humiliating to see everybody graduate and I'm'm still in the 3rd semester...
So my parents moved to the west coast.
I had a few more classes of music to finish
Just a few more ear training and music theory and I would be Then there were a series of murders going on in the
city of the college that I was going to...
So my parents thought its better to leave and go to another college
So I went to another college close by.
I finally finished my ear and theory classes.
So I wanted to get into music recording/editing.
and music editing
First semester was good,
Then the 2nd semester things took a turn for the worst.
It was near the finals and our project was to:
record a song/mix/edit/master and finally, present it.
Due in 2 weeks..ok..NP..
So I'm working, and thinking,
"Due in 2 weeks...NP..Due in 2 weeks..NP"
then all of a sudden.
I get sick and I had to miss a few days.
Then I got worse and missed a whole week.
I told the teacher and he knew my condition and he was awesome too, very patient.
But then I started getting sick again and said,
"Ok, something's not right"
I went to see the doctor.
Finally, he says
"If you keep it up, you won't be here anymore"
so I said..what? what did I do?
His reply: "You have Crohns Disease, its an inflammation of the upper/lower intestines, it's an autoimmune disease
that you get sick too easily from it, if you keep it up, its the stress that will kill you inside, I strongly
recommend you to not continue with college, unless you don't want to be here."
That hurt me real bad..my whole goal in life was to accomplish something. Not be a failure.
I've always had this fantasy that one day,
when I got older, I'm in my 80s, in the attic, rummaging through old stuff. And I find this diploma that says
Bachelor of Arts.
And I say, "Yeah.."
"I know I've been through hell..but it was all worth it...Finally accomplished something.."
Sadly, that can never happen and it hurt me bad
to give up on that dream of being able to do something
Just to achieve something.and say.."I did it..."
Despite the struggles of my life and say..
"I (BLEEPING) did it."
But I can't & had to give up college and my goal of receiving a music degree...
19. Do you have any limits or restrictions in your daily activities?
Just to avoid stress, and not run my resistance down, a lot of the times, after the talkshows I get so exhausted
that my closest friends know that I wont stay on too long right after the show and either grab something to eat
or drink, or i'll just run my resistance down after the interview, and log out and be so goddamn tired and weak
that I can't force myself to have the patience to log back in until Monday or sooner.
20. No one really can understand what you have gone thru and still suffer from , but to stay on the positive side of life. What advice would you give to someone who has been diagnosed with Crohns Disease or suffering any other disease and need some words of hope and encouragement.
It's hard to talk about this and not think about the other people that I have come across in SL, some of my closest
friends that I have met in SL are battling cancer, or other medical issues, and seems like each time I talk to
somebody else, its always another close friend of mine in SL that's getting sick, but I try to stay positive..the
best thing for me to do is keep myself busy, and that's why I have been hosting talkshows in SL besides exploring,
I need something to keep myself busy, otherwise i'll fall into a depressive slump. Theres groups to join in SL
and that's the benefit. I've tried RL support groups, they were a joke, but in SL, you can have more confidence
and support than you can get in a single support group, so its great to just going, chat with your friends, Skype
with them, see how they've been, show them things and ideas your working on, etc...
...So that's how I stay positive...by keeping myself busy.
